Seattle University is Washington State's truly urban university, situated in the heart of Seattle, arguably America's finest city. It is a traditional residential campus with 87% of its entering freshmen residing on campus. The 46 acre campus, designated by Washington state as an official backyard sanctuary for its distinctive landscaping and environmentally friendly practices, is strategically situated in the center of the city, convenient to Interstates 5 and 90. In the past twenty years the university has had 157 million dollars in new campus construction and renovations.

Our students are noted for geographic and ethnic diversity: they represent 47 states and 76 countries — 9% are international, and 45% of the entering freshmen come from outside Washington State. Currently, 50% of the students are Caucasian, 22% Asian American, 5% African American, 7% Latino, 2% Native American. While Roman Catholic and Jesuit, more than half the students are from other faith traditions.

We are a classroom oriented institution. Our average class size is 20; our student:faculty ratio is 13:1. All classes are taught by faculty. This fosters the close relationships between students and professors for which Seattle University is known and enables students to achieve their full potential. This is why our graduates enjoy conspicuous professional success and regularly receive prestigious recognition such as: Rhodes, Truman and Wilson scholarships. They are also noteworthy for their volunteer work on behalf of others, both in the US and abroad.
